The Fort Museum of the North West Mounted Police is ready to lease its Musical Ride horses during the Rides off-season. The Museum had great success last year leasing out some of the horses, which lessened the overall task of taking care of the herd for museum staff.
The “FREE/NO COST” leasing program offers an excellent opportunity for experienced horse people to lease trained, reliable and gentle horses. They can be leased in the fall, starting in September, through to mid April when the Musical Ride begins practice in the spring.
It is always difficult and no easy task keeping the horses active in the off-season. The leasing program provides the horses the exercise they need and a great opportunity for the public the use of a well-schooled mount without the cost of purchasing one.
People who enter into the lease are responsible for feeding, exercising, insuring and caring for the horse while it is in their possession. The horse is free to use, however, the expense of looking after the horse is up to the individual.
The Musical Ride horses have very good dispositions with varying degrees of training and abilities, ensuring there is a horse for every level of rider available to lease.
The Fort Museum management approves each lease based on what the horse will be used for, where it will be kept and other considerations. The program is ideal for those who would like to lease a horse for pleasure riding or possibly for a 4-H program.
